The National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) is an annual event spearheaded by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) through the Ministry of Communications. The month-long event, seeks to intensify the capacity building and awareness creation efforts on cybercrime/cyber security through the National Cybersecurity Awareness Programme.
Surfline’s participation was through its sponsorship agreement with the National Cyber Security Centre. Speaking on Cyber Security and COVID-19, Surfline’s network planning director Mr. Eric Akwei, highlighted the need for businesses to invest in cybersecurity solutions offered by service providers included in their product portfolios. He cited how expensive security breaches have cost nations billions of dollars and re-iterated the fact that it is far less expensive to deploy cybersecurity infrastructure compared to the cost of restoration after an attack. He also requested third party vendors to upgrade themselves to remain relevant in the global market. Mr. Akwei was speaking on a panel of experts from the banking, security and the digital technology sectors.
The ongoing event will see the participation of Ghana’s Minister for Communications, Deputy Ministers for Communications, Ministers and Deputy Ministers from the National Cyber Security Inter-Ministerial Advisory Council (NCSIAC), the National Cybersecurity Advisor, members of the National Cyber Security Technical Working Group(NCSTWG), representatives from government and non-government institutions as well as private sector organizations among others.
